The last few months have been really chaotic for me. More so than the usual chaos. While my husband was deployed, my mom broke her leg and came to stay with us for a few months. It was great having a distraction to take our minds off of him being gone, but it also changed the daily schedule and my priorities a bit. I felt guilty working out knowing she was bored and by herself. So, I kind of gave up on running. Sadly, I didn’t give up on eating… Then there was Thanksgiving and Christmas and he came home and then there was vacation! Woohoo! And I proceeded to keep eating ALL THE THINGS.
Did I mention Kat and I found this great little bakery close to our house a few months ago? It’s called the Cupcake Factory and they have amazing concoctions like white chocolate raspberry (my personal favorite) and birthday cake and german chocolate, not to mention carrot cake and red velvet and SOOO many others. They also have a “Buy 5, get 1 free” deal that frankly is great marketing and we couldn’t resist. So we started stopping there on a semi-regular basis. Combine those glorious confections with all the non-running and the cruise buffets and my pants have started to get snug. Really y’all, clothes that I tried on before the cruise to take on it, didn’t fit by the end of it!!! It’s THAT bad.
The chaos isn’t going away any time soon with a move coming up and I’m having a hard time getting back to my running schedule because of conflicts, but I’m trying. In the mean time, I’m resorting to something that I know works for me. It’s not just about losing weight or inches but I need to feel better all the way around. So here we go, it’s March 1st and I’m starting a modified Whole30 – and by modified, I mean retaining alcohol because NO ONE, absolutely no one benefits when I give up wine! I’m trying to reduce the chaos here not make it worse.
So, I’ve got the cookbook and I have some of the resources I used from July when we did a strict Whole30. I adore Michelle Tam at Nom Nom Paleo and Mel Joulwan’s Well Fed cookbooks are fabulous too. There’s also a facebook group for Instant Pot users that’s Whole30 compliant that I found. We’ll talk about my new Instant Pot addiction later!
I’m also going to try to make it point to at least walk or run 30 minutes everyday. I’ve got a treadmill so there’s really no excuse, even though I’m really, really good at coming up with them! I can make the BEST excuses. If I get really ambitious, I’ll throw some strength training in there once my legs don’t totally hate me for running again. It’s going to be a tough first week, but eventually it will all level out and I know I’ll feel better in the end. Wish me luck!
I’ll try to post an update once a week or so, and feel free to check up on me. Have you done a Whole30 yet? What was your experience? I remember it being fairly routine after the first couple of weeks. But I also remember a few days in there where I would have cheerfully strangled someone… It’s not easy by any stretch, but it’s doable. I am gonna miss the cupcakes though. What’s your favorite flavor?
