A friend (you know who you are) convinced me to start this blog and we’ll wait and see if she remains a friend after it! Just kidding! I think… I’m not sure how much I’ll have to say or how often I’ll say it, but I hope you’ll find it interesting some of the time at least.
So, I guess a little about me is in order to start. I’m from Texas, an unbelievably small town in West Texas that people only recognize if they were born there or got a speeding ticket passing through. It’s not the edge of the Earth, but you can see it from there on a clear day. I married into the military over 16 years ago and we are waiting to get another new assignment. I’m the mom to a middle school aged daughter who is growing up entirely too fast and three mainly well-behaved dogs who keep me on my toes. I spend my days trying to stay ahead of her technologically and letting the dogs out, then in, then out again in rapid succession. It’s great for keeping the move goal on my watch satisfied!
I discovered running a few years ago after a spectacularly non-athletic childhood and extremely sedentary early adult life. It doesn’t require hand-eye coordination so I’m usually alright at it, but I am klutzy so I haven’t been brave enough to try trail running yet. I’m not fast, but I’m stubborn enough to keep at it for a long period. The longest I’ve ran is a 50k (31 miles) and I really have no desire to repeat that at the moment because dang it hurt! I try to run at least 3 days a week for stress relief and to counteract my cheeseburger and cupcake habit, but sometimes life gets in the way.
The kitchen is my happy place and I love to bake and cook. Another reason for the aforementioned running… I’m not super creative with starting from scratch, but I can modify a recipe like nobody’s business! There have been and probably will be a few more fails from time to time, but I haven’t killed anyone yet. At least, not to my knowledge. I recently tried a Paleo/Whole 30 approach to coincide with some training plans and to alleviate some symptoms I’ve been having. It seemed to work but I really, really missed bread and cheese in unlimited amounts.
Being a military spouse means my resume reads like a transcript from a pinball game. I’ve done a little bit of everything from teaching computer classes to being a massage therapist to teaching Yoga and working for military contractors. I got tired of recreating myself at every duty station; so, 3 years ago I became a consultant for Rodan+Fields. I adore the products and I love helping people resolve skin issues they’ve had for years. It’s super convenient for me to be able to work from home and I’m excited to be able to take my business with me when we have to move this summer.
To maintain decorum and avoid being booked for murder, I drink large amounts of coffee in the morning and wine most evenings. I recently subscribed to a wine delivery service which truly may be one of the best things ever thought up. Every month they send new bottles of wine based on my tastes DIRECTLY TO MY DOOR! Y’all, that’s civilization right there.
Most days I feel like I’m stuck in an episode of I Love Lucy or a Southern Fairytale. You know, the ones that start with “you’re not gonna believe this sh*t…” Occasionally I find things that amuse or annoy me and I’ll probably talk about them here.
I hope you stick around!
